Overview

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the next generation of web and app analytics, providing privacy-centric, cross-platform measurement. By integrating GA4 with Kanalio, you can see exactly how users interact with your booking engine, where they drop off, and which marketing channels are driving the highest quality traffic.

This integration allows you to:

  • Unified Measurement: Track user journeys across different devices and domains.
  • Enhanced E-commerce: Automatically send booking value and transaction data to your GA4 property.
  • Audience Insights: Build custom audiences for remarketing based on specific behaviors within Kanalio.

How to Integrate Google Analytics 4

Integrating GA4 with Kanalio is simple and requires only your Measurement ID.

  1. Access the Dashboard: Log in to your Kanalio account and navigate to Settings > Integrations.
  2. Select Google Analytics: Click on the GA4 card and select Connect.
  3. Enter Measurement ID: Paste your Google Analytics Measurement ID (starts with G-) into the configuration field.
  4. Enable E-commerce Tracking: Toggle the switch to automatically send purchase and refund events.
  5. Save and Test: Click Save. You can verify the connection using the "Real-time" report in your Google Analytics dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between UA and GA4?

Google Analytics 4 is event-based rather than session-based. It provides better privacy controls and cross-platform tracking compared to the legacy Universal Analytics (UA).

2. Does Kanalio support e-commerce tracking in GA4?

Yes. Kanalio automatically sends purchase events along with the transaction ID, revenue, tax, and item details whenever a booking is completed.

3. Can I use both GTM and the direct GA4 integration?

It is recommended to use one or the other to avoid duplicate tracking. If you use GTM, you should disable the direct GA4 integration in Kanalio.

4. How can I verify if the integration is working?

Open your website in a new tab, then go to your GA4 property and check the Real-time report. You should see your activity appearing within seconds.

5. Does Kanalio track custom events?

Yes. Kanalio sends several custom events such as booking_start, step_complete, and payment_initiated to help you analyze your conversion funnel.

6. Is this integration GDPR compliant?

Yes. Kanalio supports GA4's consent mode, ensuring that tracking only occurs according to the user's cookie preferences.

7. How long does it take for data to appear in reports?

While Real-time data appears almost instantly, processed reports (like Acquisition or Engagement) can take 24–48 hours to fully populate.

8. Can I track multiple GA4 properties?

The current integration supports one Measurement ID per Kanalio instance. If you need to send data to multiple properties, we recommend using the Google Tag Manager integration.
